Beginnings

“Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall.” -- F. Scott Fitzgerald

As I begrudgingly put on my sneakers to head outside for a walk/jog, the thought of beginnings and endings occurred to me. Not the disciplined exerciser that I would like to be, I am perpetually beginning again.

It's easy to get caught up in the ending of things. We are saddened by end of a season, the end of a job or even the end of  a relationship. With endings though, we have opportunities for new beginnings.

Despite the changing of colors, dropping of leaves, and many plants, and even creatures going dormant or making preparations for hibernation, new life does indeed, begin in the fall. Leave it to the romantic F. Scott Fitzgerald for finding new life in the fall.

I walked that day, and made a point to observe the endings and the beginnings along the way. With the arrival of autumn, we now have brilliant colors, the return to sweaters and comfort foods.  Pumpkin patches, apple cider, doughnuts, and planning for the coming holidays are in full swing. Where wild roses once grew, I noticed rose hips had emerged in their place. Canada geese flew overhead in their v formation on their way to begin their winter in the south.

My husband and I recently attended a wedding of two longtime friends. Love is the greatest proof that there are endings but also opportunities for new beginnings regardless of age or time. Six years ago, marrying my husband gave way to an abundance of new beginnings! You're never too old to begin again, whether it is a hobby or finding love. Or in my case, putting the sneakers on and beginning that exercise plan again.

New beginnings and endings, I guess, go hand in hand. If we spend too much time on what we have lost, then we lose the possibilities and all of the joy that newness and beginnings have to offer.
